Objectifs Peau, an initiative in the service of patients
Objectifs Peau grew from a shared observation: French dermatology lacked a robust, up-to-date measure of how often skin diseases occur in the population. In response, French dermatologists and skin-health companies joined forces around a major epidemiological study of the prevalence of skin diseases, with a simple ambition — to understand patients’ needs better so that their care can be organised better.
The forum on Thursday 8 December shared the spirit of the initiative, its scientific foundations and its first perspectives, in an open exchange with the audience.
What the session covered
The session was built in three parts: a presentation of the objectives and the method — why measure the prevalence of skin diseases, with which tools and which safeguards — a progress report on the project, and then time for questions and discussion with participants.
- understand the methodological choices behind a large prevalence study in dermatology;
- place French data alongside international work;
- identify concrete applications for practice: screening, referral, prevention, patient education;
- talk with the project leaders and suggest directions for the future.
Why it mattered
For private dermatologists and hospital teams alike, reliable epidemiological data changes the picture: it informs public-health priorities, feeds clinical guidelines and gives weight to the specialty’s arguments in debates about how care is organised. Objectifs Peau carries that collective ambition, and the forum was one of its key moments.
Continuing the conversation
The forum sits within the scientific programme of JDP 2016; the discussion continues in the dermatology news section, and the sessions can be revisited through the recorded sessions and e-posters. For any question, the congress secretariat can be reached through the Contacts page.
